Hello, Robotics + Steve Jobs at Reed College

I just came from a robotics meeting. It was the first one I’d ever been to. I was greeted with open arms and generosity. People were so focused on their projects. But they tried to explain things to me even though I don’t know that much.

I have this urgent need to explore robotics that I can’t really explain. There’s some things in life that can’t be explained, but if your mind is telling you to do it and it aligns with where you want to be in life, then chase it. For me, that’s usually something I am a fanatic about. I’m a fanatic for a lot of things. I guess that’s why I have so many hobbies, books, random interests and a crazy YouTube feed (even though I turned off the history, which disables the algorithm). I'm not a fanatic yet about robotics but it's something that I'm fascinated by.

Never in my life have I entered a room where I knew nobody or anything about what was in front of me AND felt extremely comfortable. This is a new thing for me. I’m planning to go back tomorrow. The team gave me google drive access for the documents. I am going to devour everything in the drive tonight.

Another (random) funny thing I noticed is this relationship between Robert Friedland and Steve Jobs at Reed College. I’ve reread this page in Steve Jobs’ biography probably 6-8 times. Of course, Steve ends up disliking Friedland, but he picked up on a lot of Friedland’s social skills and mannerisms purely by being around this person that brightened any room he entered. I’ve been so fortunate to meet these kinds of bright people at my school. I've learned so much from them. Their presence is a gift to the world, and they deserve everything.

Another random thought that I am stealing from Paul Graham's "How To Do Great Work": So far, I have not found a single job or company or industry I see myself working in long-term. Maybe I'll change my mind, but maybe I'm not complacent and accepting the world as it is. What I think will happen is that I will have to reinvent an industry or build a new one or expand one. I'll probably have to create the market for which I will sell to. I don't know yet. Here's what I do know: I don't want to sell a commodity product, work at a commodity business or be a commodity person.
